Third Batman to be Titled The Dark Knight Rises
In an interview with Hero Complex, Christopher Nolan revealed that the title for his third Batman movie will be The Dark Knight Rises. He added that the villain "won't be the Riddler."
"We'll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we'll be introducing some new ones," Nolan said cryptically. He also said that the studio has agreed with him not to shoot the film in 3D.
The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled for a July 20, 2012 release.

Rumored The Dark Knight Rises Female Short List
An actress short list for The Dark Knight Rises has turned up online, courtesy of Deadline.
Actresses that Christopher Nolan has been rumored to have met with include Anne Hathaway, Keira Knightley, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Naomi Watts and Rachel Weisz. The original article suggests that Nolan is casting for two different female roles, both that of Bruce Wayne's romantic interest and that of a female villain.
The Dark Knight Rises will star returning actors Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman as well as the recently-announced Tom Hardy in an unspecified role. The film will go into production shortly with a release planned for July 20, 2012.

Michael Caine on The Dark Knight Rises Schedule
Michael Caine, who plays Alfred in Christopher Nolan's Batman movies, previously said that he thought The Dark Knight Rises would "probably start in May next year."
He's now given Empire magazine a little clearer picture of the film's shooting schedule: "Emma [Thomas], the producer, said we'd get the script in January. Christopher said: 'Script in January, shoot in May, finish in November.'"
Warner Bros. Pictures has set a July 20, 2012 release date for The Dark Knight Rises.

Heath Ledger in new Batman movie?
Christopher Nolan is reportedly considering using previously unseen footage of Heath Ledger in the new Batman movie.
The director confirmed he would be helming the third instalment of the popular franchise, entitled The Dark Knight Rises, earlier this year. He called the movie "inevitable", and admitted he is excited to start work on it.
Late actor Heath Ledger won a post-humous Oscar for his portrayal of the Joker in 2008 film The Dark Knight, and it has been suggested Christopher is keen to pay tribute to him.
"The idea is to use these fragments of cut scenes and use CGI to have The Joker appear one last time," a source explained. "Chris wants some continuity between movies and for the franchise to pay tribute to Heath and his portrayal of the Joker."
It is thought only a snippet of footage will be used, although the plan is only in the early stages at the moment. If it goes ahead it is likely to be a hit with fans and industry professionals alike, as Heath's portrayal of the Joker has gone down in film history as one of the most intense depictions of a character ever seen.
"It would only be a fleeting moment in the movie and would only be included with the full consent of Heath's family," the source added.
Heath died in January 2008 of a prescription drug overdose.

Heath Ledger Not Appearing in The Dark Knight Rises
In addition to the stories about how The Dark Knight Rises will be Christopher Nolan's last Batman film (seriously, how many times does Nolan need to say this before it becomes non-news?), a rumor is also making the rounds that Nolan will be using unused footage of Heath Ledger's Joker in the new film. Nolan debunked that rumor while talking to Thompson on Hollywood, confirmed that Tom Hardy has a role and gave a bit of an update:
Nolan, bearded and affable, explained that he’s scrambling to finish the script for The Dark Knight Rises, his third Batman movie, which he’s writing in collaboration with his brother Jonathan, mostly from his oceanfront abode in the Paradise Cove trailer park in Malibu..The script is due in January for a July release. But he wouldn’t say what the story’s about or who the villain is, other than to confirm that Inception’s Tom Hardy will play “a key role, not saying good or bad,” and to shoot down reports that he’ll resurrect The Joker by including unused footage of Heath Ledger’s performance in the previous chapter. “That’s all wrong,” said the writer-director, who’s also producing the next Superman movie, for Zack Snyder to direct.
Warner Bros. Pictures has scheduled a July 20, 2012 release for The Dark Knight Rises.

Eckhart Confirms No Two-Face in The Dark Knight Rises
Aaron Eckhart confirmed once and for all to MTV that Harvey Dent/Two-Face will not be appearing in The Dark Knight Rises, which he says "is going to blow everybody away."
"Chris and I had a meeting, on the beach, just the two of us," Eckhart said. "I said, 'Chris, a lot of people are asking me if I'm in the next 'Batman.' And Chris said, 'Yes?' I said, 'Am I?' He looked at me and he said, 'No.'" He added that he wasn't joking about the beach part and said that they "found ourselves alone on the beach together on a stormy day and he delivered the news to me. I was heartbroken. But Chris has his reasons and my life must go on... Honestly, it was Heath's movie to go on. We had a great movie. I'm so honored to be a part of that movie."

Christopher Nolan Confirms That 'The Dark Knight Rises' Will Be His Last Batman Movie
Christopher Nolan is returning to Gotham City for one more Batman movie, but note the use of the word one — because after "The Dark Knight Rises," Nolan is hanging up his cape and cowl for good.
Describing the film as "the last chapter of our Batman saga," Nolan confirmed the long suspected hunch that "The Dark Knight Rises" will be his last Batman movie during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. But just because Nolan can see the light at the end of the tunnel doesn't mean he's not excited about the "Dark Knight" sequel.
"No, it's exactly the opposite," he said. "I feel very glad that I’m doing another Batman film."
Part of the reason that Nolan's thrilled to be working alongside the Caped Crusader one last time is that he's actively looking for a familiar setting following his intense work on "Inception," the Leonardo DiCaprio-starring thriller that electrified the box office earlier this summer.
"I think it would have been daunting to sit down and write an original script after 'Inception,'" he said. "I love working within the realm and rules of our Batman world. It’s kind of nice to have someplace to go that I’m super-excited about.”
“I must say that I’m glad — I’m very, very glad — to be embarking on the last chapter of our Batman saga without any sense of obligation or duty to the studio," he added. "They did very well with 'Inception.' So I’m able to go into finishing our story in a very enthusiastic way.”

Anne Hathaway Reviving Catwoman For TDKR; Tom Hardy Is Bane
Chris Nolan has lifted the veil off his third Batman film. He has set Anne Hathaway to play Selina Kyle, who has a double identity as Catwoman. Nolan has also acknowledged that his Inception star Tom Hardy will play the villain role of Bane, an escaped prisoner who became abnormally strong after being pumped full of drugs. Bane is known as "the man who broke the Bat" after he broke Batman's spinal cord in the comics storyline. Warner Bros has a checkered history with the Catwoman; Michelle Pfeiffer was hailed for her performance as the feline in 1992's Batman Returns. A subsequent attempt at a 2004 spinoff movie with Halle Berry was a flop. Hathaway has been vying for the role since last November, along with actresses that included Keira Knightley, Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts, Blake Lively and Natalie Portman. Deadline revealed last October that Hardy was set to play the villain role. That started a guessing game over which Batbaddie he might be. Now we know. Here is the official studio announcement:
Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises.” She will be starring alongside Christian Bale, who returns in the title role of Bruce Wayne/Batman.
Christopher Nolan stated, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.”
In addition, Tom Hardy has been set to play Bane. Nolan said, “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.”
Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven.
“The Dark Knight Rises” is slated for release on July 20, 2012. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Christopher Nolan on The Dark Knight Rises
Christopher Nolan talked about the third installment of his Batman series, The Dark Knight Rises, at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival where he was presented with the Modern Master Award for Inception on Sunday night.
ComingSoon.net/SuperHeroHype attended the event and sat in on the tribute to the director at the Arlington Theatre in downtown Santa Barbara where Nolan said he saw Aliens years ago.
We listened in as moderator Pete Hammond asked where he got the title from and Nolan joked, "I banged my head against the wall."
The audience laughed and then Nolan went on to say, "We've worked on it a long time - David Goyer and myself. We're about 12 weeks away from shooting. We start in May."
It's been known that Nolan wasn't sure if he was going to do another film or not, so when Hammond asked why he decided to do a third one, he simply said, "It was about finishing the story."
Nolan still wouldn't confirm whether Anne Hathaway would play Catwoman or just Selina Kyle. When asked, he smiled coyly and wouldn't say a word.
The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled to open in theaters on July 20, 2012.
At the same time Nolan will be directing The Dark Knight Rises, he and his wife/producing partner Emma Thomas will also be working on the new Zack Snyder-directed Superman film, which will star the newly-announced Henry Cavill and hits theaters in December of 2012.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Joining The Dark Knight Rises?
Long rumored to play a part in Christopher Nolan's Batman sequel after his turn in the director's Inception last year, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is now reported by Deadline to be in talks for a role in The Dark Knight Rises.
Currently filming Rian Johnson's Looper, Gordon-Levitt has not officially been cast and, as of yet, there is no studio confirmation that he is even being sought to appear. That said, the actor has preemptively been the subject of much internet speculation regarding who he might play in the DC Universe and, as such, has certainly proven himself popular with Nolan fans.
The Dark Knight Rises is slated to feature the return of Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman, reprising their characters from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Newcomers confirmed to appear include Anne Hathaway in the part of Selina Kyle and Tom Hardy (who also appeared in Inception) in the role of Bane.
The film is planned for regular and IMAX release on July 20, 2012.

Gordon-Levitt's The Dark Knight Rises Role Revealed
On Friday, Variety reported that Inception co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt had closed a deal to re-team with director Christopher Nolan for The Dark Knight Rises. The trade has since updated their article with who he will play in the anticipated film:
Speculation has run rampant regarding the role, with blogs pegging the part as The Riddler or Deadshot, but insiders tell Variety that Gordon-Levitt will be playing Alberto Falcone, the son of Mafia chieftain Carmine Falcone, the character Tom Wilkinson played in "Batman Begins."
Filming for the movie is set to kick-off soon. Warner Bros. Pictures is planning a July 20, 2012 release.

The Dark Knight Rises in Pittsburgh
Christopher Nolan's third Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises has announced plans to film in Pittsburgh, PA this summer. The city's own Pittsburgh Post Gazette offers up confirmation from Nolan himself.
"Pittsburgh is a beautiful city," he says, "We have been able to find everything we were looking for here and I am excited to spend the summer in Pittsburgh with our final installment of Batman."
Though it remains to be seen what specific elements of the Steel City will manage to make their way into Gotham, the director of the Pittsburgh Film Office, Dawn Keezer, has been working to make sure that the big-budget production finds everything it needs.
"[T]hey really fell in love with was the diversity of architecture and the gorgeous buildings that we still have in Downtown Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas," she says.
The Dark Knight Rises will hit theaters on July 20, 2012.

Josh Pence Joins The Dark Knight Rises
A surprise bit of casting has placed Josh Pence in a supporting role in The Dark Knight Rises. The Hollywood Reporter claims that Pence will play Ra's al Ghul in the conclusion of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy.
The original story suggests that al Ghul, who was played in Batman Begins by Liam Neeson, will appear in flashbacks that are set three decades in the past.
Pence, who appears in the upcoming Battleship (opposite Neeson), also appeared in last year's The Social Network as the body of Tyler Winklevoss (his face was digitally replace with that of Armie Hammer).
Though unconfirmed, the appearance of the character would support rumors that Talia al Ghul, his daughter, may be a featured villain.
The Dark Knight Rises will enter production shortly in Pittsburgh and is set to feature the return of Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman, along with roles for Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Juno Temple. It is set for release on July 20, 2012.

The Dark Knight Rises Headed for India
Daily Bhaskar is reporting that filming for Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises will take place in India as well:
Vroom vroom.....and even before you realise Batmobile may have blazed past you at a thunderous speed, right here in Jodhpur. Wondering what we're talking about? Get set to welcome DC Comics superhero Batman as he arrives in the Blue City.
The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has given the nod to US-based Cape Road Productions to lense the next Batman flick, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ in Jodhpur.
Jodhpur is the second-largest city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. The city is known as the Sun City and is also referred to as the Blue City due to the blue-painted houses around the Mehrangarh Fort.
The Dark Knight Rises will start filming soon for a July 20, 2012 release.

More on the Dark Knight Rises India Shoot
The Times of India has published a few more details on the filming that will take place in India for Christopher Nolan's third Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises:
The director will be in Jodhpur to shoot "The Dark Knight Rises" with none other than Christian Bale. However, no other Hollywood actors from the film will be part of this shooting schedule in India.
Incidentally, Nolan had come down to India in December to scout for locations in Jodhpur. That was when he chose to shoot in Jodhpur's Mehrangar Fort. The main crew will start arriving from May 1. Christian Bale is expected to arrive in India on May 4 or May 5. Though permissions have been sought for shooting the film for the whole of May, the unit will shoot in India for only two days – May 6 and May 7.
Incidentally, hotels in Jaipur and Jodhpur have been booked for the crew. Says a source, "Nolan had scouted locations in both Jodhpur and Jaipur. But, he fell in love with Jodhpur and decided to return to film here. They are coming with a very small unit of around 15 people and will be shooting here for two days. There are no Bollywood actors being cast in the movie. But, local actors and crew members might be roped in. The unit wants to use the beautiful fort as the background for the movie. However, nothing is known yet whether Jodhpur will feature as an Indian city in the movie or not."
