Paramount Sets Transformers 2 Release Date
Despite a recent comment from Transformers director Michael Bay that the studio hasn't been going full speed ahead on a sequel because of the possible strike next year, Paramount Pictures has now set a June 26, 2009 release date for Transformers 2. It is unclear who all will return for the sequel, as far as crew and cast members. Hopefully we'll know more soon.

Nachdem schon vor dem Kinorelease fest stand, dass es zu "Transformers" mindestens einen zweiten und einen dritten Teil geben wird, gibt es nun, nach dem überwältigen Start des Action-Blockbusters von Michael Bay, erste Informationen zu "Transformers 2". Schauspieler Mark Ryan, der im ersten Teil den Transformer Bumblebee spricht, hat bestätigt, dass Teil 2 ein Prequel sein wird.
Weitere Details wollte er allerdings noch nicht verraten. Es wird erwartet, dass es diese demnächst von Michael Bay geben wird, der dann auch erklären dürfte, ob er bei den Nachfolgefilmen selbst wieder auf dem Regiestuhl Platz nimmt oder nur als Produzent fungiert. |

Ich glaube keiner weiß wirklich ob es ein Pre- oder Sequel wird. Sicher wäre es
interessant den Krieg vor der Ankunft auf der Erde zu sehen, jedoch wird dafür
massig CGI nötig sein, was eben sehr teuer wird. Lassen wir uns überraschen.

Screenwriter Ehren Kruger and the writing team of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are in talks to team to write the screenplay for DreamWorks/Paramount's Transformers 2, says The Hollywood Reporter. Director Michael Bay, star Shia LaBeouf and producers Tom DeSanto, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Don Murphy are back in their respective chairs, as is executive producer Steven Spielberg.
The trade adds that the teaming of A-listers to write such a huge project might be an industry first and could have been necessary because Kurtzman and Orci -- who wrote first movie -- also are busy writing J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movie for Paramount and producing Eagle Eye for DreamWorks. The three writers are also working together on Nightlife, a DreamWorks serial-killer project that sees Kruger adapting a Thomas Perry novel, with Kurtzman and Orci producing along with Neal Moritz. Kruger also adapted the Stephen King novel "The Talisman," which Spielberg is exec producing for TNT.
Kruger met with Bay and Hasbro president Brian Goldner and impressed the duo with his knowledge of the "Transformers" mythology.

Scott Farrar, visual-effects supervisor and second-unit director of Michael Bay's Transformers, told SCI FI Wire that the recently announced sequel will be more ambitious visually.
"We want to improve on some of the processes that we did," Ferrar said in an interview at Industrial Light & Magic in San Francisco, where the film's transforming robots were created. "I think what we're going to do is get faster and know our problems sooner and quicker. And then, of course, I know Michael's always thinking about new, crazy actions. And we're open to that."
After discussing the monumental task of creating the effects for the first film, Farrar groaned and fell off his chair in jest when asked about the sequel, which was announced last week with an anticipated release date of June 26, 2009.
"It's a circus, and they're going to raise the tight-wire walker a little bit higher next time," he said. "But it's all going to be dramatic. I think the commitment is not to just chuck out a sequel. The commitment is—and this makes us really happy here—that it's a deep story. There are lots of layers to the story of all these Decepticons, everybody. And so they want to really keep the characters rich."
Farrar added that the filmmakers plan to use the techniques and technology they learned on the first film to make the second even better. "It was difficult and, I think, laborious, and I think we learned a lot by the end," he said. "I think we've learned a lot about lighting, and I think we can go to much moodier lighting. Lots of things. It'll be improved."

It looks like a production designer has already been hired for Transformers 2. Nigel Phelps, who worked with director Michael Bay on Pearl Harbor and The Island, is listed on the United Talent Agency's website as having the job. Phelps is currently working on Universal's The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. DreamWorks Pictures is targeting a June 26, 2009 release date for the sequel.

IESB has posted a great interview Transformers 2 producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura in which he provides updates on the project.
We're nowhere because of the strike, we won't know until we come back. We have a very fine outline and we know exactly where we want go with the movie but until this writers strike comes back, we'll find out exactly where we are. Michael is completely on top of every detail. He's designed a lot of great stuff already. He's got a lot of great sequences imagined but you know, he needs some writers to work with before he's ready to go, so I would say June 2nd is an unofficial start, it's the target date we'd like to go for but, you know, we've got to get some writers to help us.

Transformers 2 director Michael Bay told Rotten Tomatoes at the Visual Effects Society awards that he's already written the sequel and will pass on his script to the screenwriters, who are coming off of the strike:
"I've been writing Transformers 2," said Bay. "We've got our characters all designed. I always write all my scripts, my movies anyway so at least I've got something to give the writers. It's like a template. We have a really good outline so I worked on that." It might be a tad unorthodox, but Bay has high pressure demands. "We had to because I want to make my date. I'm not going to let the strike take me down."
Bay also spoke to IESB, who he assured that we won't be seeing Dinobots in the follow-up. ILM's Scott Farrar also told the site that there will be a lot more robots this time and that the animatics look amazing so far. Transformers 2 is scheduled for a June 26, 2009 release.

It hasn't been confirmed elsewhere, but Australia's The Courier Mail is reporting that the Teresa Palmer has landed a role in Michael Bay's Transformers 2.
The newspaper says now that the Justice League movie is in a holding pattern (she is/was to play Talia al Ghul), the actress will follow in the footsteps of fellow Aussie star Rachael Taylor, who appeared in the first movie.
Palmer's credits include Wolf Creek, The Grudge 2, December Boys and the upcoming Bedtime Stories.

Who's Returning for Transformers 2?
There's been a lot of questions about who from the first film will return for Transformers 2, which hits theaters on June 26, 2009 release.
We knew that Shia LaBeouf would be back and that Isabel Lucas and Rainn Wilson (playing a college professor to LaBeouf's new undergrad) had been added, but now The Hollywood Reporter has also confirmed that Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson and John Turturro will reprise their roles in the Michael Bay sequel.
The story was conceived by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who wrote last year's Transformers, as well as Ehren Kruger, who wrote the screenplay. Filming began in Los Angeles in recent weeks and is moving to Pennsylvania on June 2nd and then overseas.

At the beginning of the year, director Michael Bay said that Jazz wouldn't be back for Transformers 2, but it looks like things have changed. TFW2005.com writes:
The Pontiac Solstice vehicle prop of Autobot Jazz arrived on the set of Transformers 2 earlier today. In addition we've received confirmation from a second tipster that Darius McCrary, the voice of Movie Jazz, is now on set as well.
Filming for the sequel is now taking place in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania at the former Bethlehem Steel site.
