Screen Gems Moving Ahead with Underworld 4
ShockTillYouDrop.com has learned exclusively that Sony's Screen Gems is moving ahead with a fourth film in the "Underworld" franchise and is targeting a January 2011 release. The movie will be shot in 3-D. We've received no word yet if Underworld: Rise of the Lycans stars Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy and Rhona Mitra, or former franchise stars Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman will return for the next film. Back in February, we reported that the studio was pleased with the performance of the prequel that opened on January 23. The film was made for just $35 million and earned $91.1 million worldwide, not counting DVD and Blu-ray sales.

Ich bin ja ein riesiger Fan von "Underworld", obwohl ich zugeben muss, dass ich den 3ten Teil noch nicht gesehen hab, da ja meine Lieblinge nicht mitspielen. (Ich werde Ihn aber demnächst anschauen.)
Würde es mich riesig freuen, wenn Kate & Scott wieder die Hauptrollen spielen würden.

After the news broke that Sony Screen Gems was kicking off a brand new Underworld trilogy with Underworld 4 (also said to be shot in 3-D), we started doing some digging and have stumbled on to a pretty big discovery. Two sources have told Bloody Disgusting that Kate Beckinsale is in fact attached to return as the beautiful vampire warrior Selene, who made her first appearance in Len Wiseman's film from 2003. What does this mean? It means Kate-Beckinsale-in-pleather-in-mother-effin'-3D, that's what! Now, I should be clear that this should be taken strictly as rumor as we have not been able to get any official confirmation from people involved in the actual film, or studio for that matter. We'll keep you posted when something official is announced. Underworld 4 arrives in theaters January 21, 2011.

Just an hour ago I participated in a press conference with part of the cast of “Whiteout” and producer Joel Silver. Since Kate Beckinsale is the lead in “Whiteout”, it was the perfect time to ask Kate about returning to the popular “Underworld” franchise. But according to Kate, reports of her returning for a 4th film are premature as she told us, “as far as I’m concerned it’s just a rumor.”
Here’s what Kate told us about “Underworld”:
Will you ever do another Underworld?
Kate: I don’t know anything about a 4th Underworld. I don’t know anything about that at this point.
You know nothing about another Underworld?
Kate: I know they have…it was always conceived as a trilogy, which I was never going to be in the third one. I think if they came up with an amazing script I wouldn’t be adverse to it. But it’s not planned or anything.
There have been reports you signed to a new Underworld trilogy.
Kate: God, three whole more!
Yeah.
Kate: I don’t think my daughter needs to see my bottom in rubber for another ten years. But I don’t know, I’ve heard they’re talking about a 4th one, but I don’t know if that’s officially happening or it’s that a rumor. As far as I’m concerned it’s just a rumor.
So for now, nothing’s happening. But with how much money the franchise has made, it definitely wouldn’t surprise me to see Kate wear the rubber suit again. More as we get it.

The Shield Writer to Pen Underworld 4
"The Shield" writer John Hlavin has been hired to pen Underworld 4 for Screen Gems and Lakeshore.
Len Wiseman, who directed the first two films in the vampire-vs.-werewolf saga, is producing with Gary Lucchesi, Tom Rosenberg and Richard Wright of Lakeshore.
The fourth installment does not yet have a director attached and neither Kate Beckinsale or Rhona Mitra have signed to return.
Hlavin said the plot is under wraps, "but I can tell you it's not a prequel." He added, "It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don't want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements."

Underworld 4 has been rumored since Underworld: Rise of the Lycans opened in early 2009. There's been speculation of the fourth chapter, a straight-up sequel taking place after the second film, arriving in 3D and featuring Kate Beckinsale back in Selene's skin.
Today, series co-creator Len Wiseman told IGN that the fourth film is "all being written and talked about and hopefully all comes together. So we're seeing how things happen. But we're all keeping our fingers crossed."
He added the plan right now is to bring Beckinsale back. "We're both waiting to see what kind of story comes together. It's just getting the script to a certain place where we're both happy with it."
Underworld 4 is currently scheduled for a September 23, 2011 release.

Kate Beckinsale has officially signed on to return as the Death Dealer Selene in Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment's Underworld 4.
The film, written by John Hlavin with revisions by J. Michael Straczynski, is currently looking for a director. Len Wiseman, the first two films' director (and husband to Beckinsale) will produce along with Lakeshore Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi.
Beckinsale appeared in both Underworld and Underworld: Evolution, but did not return for 2009's Underworld: Rise of the Lycans. In the third film, Selene appeared only in flashbacks, where she was portrayed by Lily Mo Sheen, Beckinsale's real-life daughter.
Underworld 4 also has an open part for Selene's fictional daughter, indicating that this will, indeed, take place after the timeframe of Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.
Production is slated to begin in Vancouver in March 2011. Screen Gems' Senior Vice President of Production, Scott Strauss will oversee the project for the studio.

Bloody Disgusting had some plot details on the next movie.
It wrote, “After being held in a coma-like state for fifteen years, vampire Selene learns that she has a fourteen-year-old vampire/Lycan hybrid daughter, Nissa, and when she finds her they must stop BioCom from creating super Lycans that will kill them all.”
Swedish directors Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein will be directing with a release date in 3D and 2D on January 20, 2012.

Production is underway in Vancouver, British Columbia, on the 4th installment in the highly successful Screen Gems/Lakeshore Entertainment UNDERWORLD franchise. Kate Beckinsale, star of the first two films, returns in her lead role as the vampire warrioress Selene, who escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans, and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both immortal species.
Kate Beckinsale is revealing herself to be one of films’ most versatile and charismatic actresses. Beckinsale recently wrapped production on the thriller “Contraband” opposite Mark Wahlberg. She was last seen in the independent dramas “Snow Angels” opposite Sam Rockwell, and in the dark comedy “Everybody’s Fine” opposite Robert Deniro and Drew Barrymore. That same year, she also starred in the independent political drama “Nothing But The Truth” opposite Alan Alda and Matt Dillon, which garnered her great recognition for her accolade worthy performance.
While attending Oxford University studying French and Russian literature, Beckinsale starred in Kenneth Branagh's "Much Ado About Nothing" opposite Emma Thompson. Beckinsale's additional film credits include the Disney epic "Pearl Harbor" opposite Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett, “Serendipity” opposite John Cusack, "Laurel Canyon" opposite Christian Bale, and the Academy award winning film "The Aviator" opposite Leonardo Dicaprio.
India Eisley (Eve) stars as “Ashley Juergens” in ABC Family’s #1 Teen Drama and Teen Choice Award winning television series, “The Secret Life of an American Teenager,” now premiering its 3rd season in March 2011. The daughter of actress Olivia Hussey and musician David Glen Eisley, India attributes her early childhood experiences on film sets and in recording studios for igniting her passion for acting and love of films.
Following his breakout role in “Barbershop” and “Barbershop 2”, Michael Ealy (Detective Sebastian) went on to earn a Golden Globe nomination for his role in the critically acclaimed Showtime series “Sleeper Cell”.
