Transformers 3 Enters Summer 2011
Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Pictures have set a July 1, 2011 release date for Transformers 3, but the studios have cautioned to Variety that the dating of the third installment isn't an official announcement that the project is going forward; rather that the studios wanted to plan a stake in the date.
Transformers opened July 2, 2007; Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen debuts on June 24, 2009. So far, Transformers 3 has no direct competition in its July 1, 2011 date.

Hollywood directors, start writing your CVs now. Michael Bay has said that he will not be returning for Transformers 3, should Paramount decide to make it.
"It's easy to go shoot an art movie in a winery in the South of France," he said. "But people have no idea how hard it is to create something like Transformers. They (the critics) review me before they've even seen the movie."
It seems like a strange time in his career to be worrying about what the critics think, but it seems Bay’s mid-life crisis is genuine. He adds, "After the three and a half years I've spent making these movies, I feel like I've had enough of the Transformers world. I need to do something totally divergent, something without any explosions."
You heard it here, folks. Mark up July 4, 2010 on your calendar – something like a remake of A Bout De Souffle by Michael Bay is on the way.

Bay and LaBeouf talked about the prospects of another sequel Monday night at the Los Angeles premiere of the second installment, "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," which opens Wednesday.
While a third chapter has not been officially announced, Bay said he intends to return to the franchise if No. 3 moves forward. But he wants some time off first, having just finished the second one.
"I will do it, but you've got to give us time," Bay said. "I need a little rest."
LaBeouf said he expects a third "Transformers" would carry the action beyond Earth and become "more of an intergalactic thing."
"Revenge of the Fallen" takes place largely on Earth as LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro and other co-stars continue their alliance with the benevolent shape-shifting Autobots in their war against the evil Decepticon robots.
A third movie also "will be darker. Something crazy will happen," LaBeouf said. "Someone has to die."

The Los Angeles Times has published an article on Ramon Rodriguez, who plays Leo Spitz in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. It sounds like he'll be back for the third installment:
Director Michael Bay has a third "Transformers" film in mind, and if it plays out as he expects, the next installment would have a more substantial role for Rodriguez. The filmmaker, speaking at his office a few weeks before "Revenge of the Fallen" was released, seemed to have some pride of discovery when talking about Rodriguez.
"I've worked with big stars, people like Will Smith, Sean Connery and Bruce Willis, but casting is a weird thing, it takes you places you don't expect," Bay said. "We went looking for a sidekick in this movie, Shia's sidekick, and we find this new kid who really pops on screen. I think he’s going to have a real bright career. It's great to work with big stars, but it's always fun to discover people."

* He will be meeting later this week with Steven Spielberg, and Ehren Kruger to discuss ideas for Transformers 3. By the end of the week he should have an idea if Transformers 3 will hit your local cineplex in the summer of 2011 or 2012.
* In the meantime "Pain & Gain" is looking very possible as is...
* ...Bad Boys 3. Either film coming to a theater near you before or after Transformers 3.

Today is Day One. This morning started with an ILM meeting for five hours in San Francisco. Currently I'm flying with writer Ehren Kruger to Rhode Island to talk to Hasbro about new characters.

Megan Fox has said pretty awful things about the "Transformers" movies and director Michael Bay. Crew members have nothing but bad things to say about her and Bay has been disappointed with her comments, but has recently stated that he will bring her back for the third installment.
Now that work is getting under way to meet the July 1st, 2011 release date, Bay and writer Ehren Kruger have apparently decided to cut their ties with the actress.
An insider told Insider magazine that Bay is considering writing Fox out of the series in a gory death scene that will take place during the first few minutes of the new movie. He will then replace her with another gorgeous young actress to provide the eye candy.
"Michael's pretty much discovered Megan and now he's very quietly looking for her replacement," said the insider. "He hasn't decided if he's going to kill her off in the next movie, but he just wants to be prepared."

"Transformers: The Revenge of the Fallen" was recently released on DVD and Blu-ray, and in a feature called "The All Spark Experiment," director Michael Bay talks about some of his ideas for "Transformers 3." Here is what he said:
"It can't get bigger, we have to figure out to go sideways and I'm wondering where to start. What I'm doing is having Hasbro send me tons of lore and stuff like that, things that we can draw from, and I just have to let it simmer. Definitely more has to be made of Bumblebee in the third one, that's a relationship you want to explore more. And I think we're definitely going to get more into the robot characters.
This movie got very big, very grand, we've covered a lot of ground. The third one doesn't have to be as big, we could go darker. It definitely has to be more emotional, it's not going to be just about action, action, action. And that's where I think T3 might potentially go, where things are more undercover and not as exposed."

The Los Angeles Times reports that Transformers 3 director Michael Bay briefly spoke about the third installment at a discussion on sound in film:
So can we expect more thunderous sound in the third installment? Although the number of robots increased significantly from the first film for the second, the third film -- which will hit theaters in summer 2011, won't be as robot-heavy and there will be fewer explosions, a tight-lipped Bay said after the Q+A.
"There will be a nice crescendo ending," Bay said. "It gets much more into the robot character. The last time you kind of met a few of the robots; this time you're gonna get a much cooler landscape."
Transformers 3 hits theaters on July 1, 2011.

In an article at Variety talking about films getting converted into 3D, the trade says it is still a possibility that Transformers 3 might add a dimension:
Bay's next project is "Transformers 3," and there have been discussions among Bay, Paramount and Industrial Light & Magic about going 3D with the pic. The big stumbling block is the extra time required to do production and visual effects in 3D, as the movie's release date is already set. Having the pic post-converted could alleviate that problem.
The third installment is scheduled for a July 1, 2011 release.

While it was expected, it was not confirmed yet whether Josh Duhamel would return as Major Lennox in Transformers 3.
Duhamel told us today at the Las Vegas ShoWest convention that he met with director Michael Bay yesterday, that the script is done and they're preparing to start filming in the summer. So yes, he will indeed be back alongside Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox and Tyrese Gibson.
Transformers 3 is scheduled to hit theaters on July 1, 2011.

'They went back into the history of 'Transformers.' They didn't really make anything up,' actor reveals.
With "Transformers 3" set to begin filming this May with an eye toward a July 2011 opening, MTV News has learned that a script has been completed and that it features elements from the franchise's core mythology, which stretches back to the early '80s toy line and TV show.
The news comes from franchise co-star Josh Duhamel, who chatted with us at ShoWest in Las Vegas on Thursday. "I read it yesterday," he said of the script. "I think that after reading it, I was really pleasantly surprised and happy. They did a great job."
While Duhamel was understandably tight-lipped about plot details, he did reveal that the script includes new robots and story elements from foundational "Transformers" story lines. "Some really cool stuff happens," he said. "They put a lot of time and thought into this. What I think is really cool is they went back into the history of 'Transformers.' They didn't really make anything up. They're using stuff that actually existed in the story from before."
Duhamel's comments confirm what Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner told MTV News earlier this year. "You're going to see that great core mythology brought to the fore, and Michael [Bay] is hard at work at making this a reality and we're very excited about it," he said.
Does that mean we might catch a glimpse of the Dinobots, those classic robots who morph into dinosaurs? Duhamel paused when asked that question before admitting, "I can't tell you."
He could tell us that after reading the script, he's got his fingers crossed for some more screen time in this third installment of the franchise. "It all depends on what happens in the editing room," he said. "I hope so. I think I've got to butter up Michael Bay a little bit more."

Michael Bay has made a big announcement about Transformers 3 on his official website! We'll let him do the talking:
Hey, it's been a long time since I've posted. Just been a little busy.
Transformers 3 has been going very well. We are going to shoot in LA, Chicago, Washington DC, Florida, Texas, Africa, Moscow, and China. On the talent front, we just locked in Frances McDormand and John Malkovich. Both amazing actors I've always wanted to work with. We also just got Ken Jeong, he is the super funny actor stuck in the trunk from “Hangover” and the Doctor from “Knocked Up.”
We start shooting pre-shoots in about one month.
I also was at a Ferrari charity event this week raising money for a hospital being built by Ferrari in Haiti. I announced that night the newest Autobot to join Transformers: the Ferrari 458 Italia.
I also want to thank everyone on this site that donated to the Make -A-Wish charity. We raised $20,000 which I will personally be matching. This is a great charity where they make wishes come true for kids who are very ill. We have had many Kids from Make-A-Wish visit us on our Transformers sets and this time we will be posting video of their visits on Transformers 3.

Reel Chicago reports that Michael Bay's Transformers 3 will start filming in Chicago on July 4th. The filming in the Windy City is expected to take seven weeks. Here are some excerpts:
Chicago Film Office director Rich Moskal calls the upcoming big-budget shoot “a blockbuster in every sense of the word; in terms of economic impact, stunts and special effects.”
They will shoot along Michigan Avenue and throughout the Loop.
Starting May 10 "T3" will work out of Chicago Film Studios Chicago (the Ryerson steel plant), occupying 300,000 sq. ft. for offices, stages, construction, wardrobe, transportation, etc., according to studio manager Alex Pisseos.
"T3" will shoot in six other world cities in the continuing saga of the admirable Autobots and dastardly Decepticons, who disguise themselves by transforming into everyday machinery.
Transformers 3, starring Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Kevin Dunn, Julie White, Frances McDormand, John Malkovich and Ken Jeong, is scheduled for a July 1, 2011 release.

We reported last week that Michael Bay's upcoming robots in disguise sequel is gearing up for a production start on July 4 and now it seems two more cast members may be added. /Film has dug up some obscure interviews with actors Patrick Dempsey and Jamie Kennedy which reveal they both could have roles in Transformers 3.
It seems that Dempsey gave an interview to a Brazilian website called BOH where he dropped the following tidbit, according to the Google translation, when asked about his new film projects.
"Flypaper, I start filming later this month, and Transformers 3 where he played a character who is more "dark" than others."
The Kennedy information comes from TFW2005 which revealed that Kennedy stated in an interview with an Arizona radio station that he might have a role in the film. Here's what Kennedy said on the air.
"I had an interesting interview with the people behind the new Transformers movie and I may have a role in the movie."
Of course, none of this has been confirmed as of yet, but we'll be sure to keep you posted on any news regarding Transformers 3 as soon as we have more information.
