| Another crime specialist, producer Donald P. Bellisario ("Magnum, p.i."), gets to spin off his current CBS hit, "JAG," with "Navy CIS" (Naval Criminal Investigative Service), which will air at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Harmon, Michael Weatherly and McCallum play homicide investigators looking into crimes with Navy or Marine Corps ties. "JAG" will move to 9 p.m. Friday to make way for its spinoff on the Tuesday lineup. |

Hier die offizielle "About the show"-Mitteilung direkt von www.cbs.com:
For eight seasons, JAG executive producer Donald Bellisario has brought us the inner workings of the United States Navy's office of the Judge Advocate General, exposing its behind-the-scenes courtroom secrets and procedures. Now he shifts his focus to the team from the Navy Criminal Investigative Service, the government agency that investigates all crimes involving Navy personnel. A civilian robbery with a naval cap found at the scene? A murder on an overseas base? Sailors who've bolted from a crime scene? They're all part of the job for NAVY CIS leader J. P. Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and his squad. Michael Weatherly ("Dark Angel") costars. Get a clue and come aboard.
PRODUCED BY: Paramount Television
EXECUTIVE PRODUCER: Donald P. Bellisario
Mark Harmon as J. P. Gibbs
David McCallum as Dr. Theodore Ducky
Michael Weatherly as Tony
Pauley Perrette as Abby |

Und noch ein Bericht über NCIS:

Here's an updated writeup from Zap2It.com on Navy CIS:
Navy CIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service)
Premise: A spin-off "JAG," this action drama follows a team of special agents whose mission is to investigate any crime that has a shred of evidence connected to Navy and Marine Corps personnel, regardless of rank or position.
From What We've Seen: The characters for "N.C.I.S." have already been introduced on a two-part episode of "JAG," so viewers pretty much know what to expect. CBS is basically spinning off one show by filtering it through the network's biggest franchise. Expect production values closer to "C.S.I." and lots and lots of forensic science. Mark Harmon is a likeable and authoritative leading man and Michael Weatherly may help attract younger viewers. Clearly this isn't a show that's going to shock its viewers, but it appears to be sturdy.
Stars: Mark Harmon ("The West Wing," "Chicago Hope," "St. Elsewhere"), Michael Weatherly ("Dark Angel"), David McCallum ("The Man from U.N.C.L.E." ) and Pauley Perrette
Studio: Belisarious Productions, in association with Paramount Network Television
Producer: Donald P. Bellisario ("JAG," "Magnum P.I." )

Here's a pic and article from the EW website:
The mock aircraft being used for the first episode of CBS' new drama ''Navy NCIS,'' in a warehouse in Valencia, Calif., is the very one from which Harrison Ford expunged a group of terrorists in the 1997 blockbuster ''Air Force One.'' Reasons Michael Weatherly, who plays Naval Criminal Investigative Service agent Anthony DiNozzo, ''It's probably more exciting to be on the Harrison Ford Air Force One than it would be to be on the George W. Bush Air Force One.''
But the fake flier isn't the only thing that seems a bit familiar on ''Navy NCIS.'' Let's see here: A group of agents, including Leroy Jethro Gibbs (star Mark Harmon), investigate crime scenes while their colleagues, Dr. Donald ''Ducky'' Mallard (David McCallum) and technician Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette), perform autopsies and forensic tests, respectively. (Wait -- is Marg Helgenberger lurking in the background?) Even the title -- ''NCIS'' -- is nearly an anagram of a certain top-rated CBS show. A new TV series hasn't caused this much confusion since we all thought Dick Wolf's sex-crimes spin-off was called ''Law & Order: SUV.'' Says Weatherly, ''People were thinking 'Well, what is it? Is it 'CSI'? Or is it 'JAG'?'''
Though some have termed ''Navy NCIS'' ''the JAG-off'' -- its characters were introduced on creator Don Bellisario's other CBS series last April when David James Elliott's Harm was suspected of murder -- the executive producer insists it stands on its own. ''It's not really a spin-off,'' he says. ''This is a totally separate show. A spin-off is when you take a character from a show and put it in another show, or when you duplicate the show in another location, like 'CIS: Miami.''' (''CIS''? Looks like we're not the only ones perplexed.)
As for those ''CSI'' comparisons, Bellisario isn't buying. ''It's not similar to 'CSI,''' he says. ''Does it have some forensics in it? Yeah. I mean, 'Quincy' had forensics in it. I'm not going to say that we didn't put some forensics in it because that's hot stuff. Of course we did. But that's not the drive of the show.'' Seconds Harmon: ''The style of the show will be completely different. What's going to drive an audience back to the show is the characters.''
In order to draw viewers beyond just ''JAG'' freaks, CBS would be wise to exploit the head-turning cast, which features male sex symbols from three different generations. ''We did the up-fronts in New York, and all the ad buyers were there,'' says Weatherly, a former soap star. ''These chicks went bananas for Mark Harmon. I mean, like Tom Cruise/Brad Pitt bananas.''
Still, Bellisario wasn't initially sold on Harmon when his name first came up for the part of Gibbs. ''Quite frankly, I said, 'What have I seen him in [lately]?''' he admits. But Harmon's 2002 Emmy-nominated guest stint as a Secret Service agent on The West Wing changed that. ''They gave me the [tapes], and I went, 'Oh, wow, that's the character! That's him.''' Harmon, a veteran of hospital dramas ''St. Elsewhere'' and ''Chicago Hope'' (as well as two relatively short-lived detective series, ''Charlie Grace'' and ''Reasonable Doubts''), is now enjoying a career resurgence that includes a role in the late-summer hit ''Freaky Friday'' and a turn as the President opposite Mandy Moore in an as-yet-untitled 2004 film. ''Life kind of goes in peaks and valleys, and it certainly doesn't read like a résumé,'' says Harmon, 52. ''I don't get too excited about the high points and I don't get too excited about the low ones. I'm just thankful not to be wearing scrubs.'' |

Kann mir jemand genau erklären was ein Spin-off ist?
Ist das sowas wie ein Ableger der eigentlichen Serie?
EDIT by Maestro:
Korrekt, ist ein Ableger einer Serie!
EDIT by eilien:
Wobei im Navy NCIS Fall die Serie nichts mit dem "vermeindlichen großen Bruder" J.A.G. zu tun hat. Es ist nur derselbe Executive Producer Donald P Bellisario... |
