Jessica Alba in talks to join 'Parents'
Jessica Alba is in talks to join the cast of the third installment of the "Meet the Parents" franchise, which is being prepped by director Paul Weitz for Universal Pictures and Tribeca Productions.
Alba will play a key role alongside Ben Stiller, Teri Polo, Robert De Niro, Blythe Danner, and Owen Wilson.
Jane Rosenthal and Jay Roach are producing. John Hamburg rewrote an original script by Larry Stuckey.
Alba will next be seen in the Garry Marshall-directed ensemble romantic comedy, "Valentine's Day." She most recently completed filming roles in "Machete," the drama that Robert Rodriguez is co-directing, and "The Killer Inside Me," the Michael Winterbottom-directed adaptation of the Jim Thompson book.
Alba is repped by WME, Thruline Entertainment and attorney Warren Dern.

The actress is in negotiations to join the Ben Stiller-Robert DeNiro comedy "Little Fockers." She'd play the role of an attractive pharmaceutical rep whose looks wreak havoc on male characters in the story.
Paul Weitz is directing the third installment in the Universal and Tribeca Productions franchise. Universal is banking heavily on "Fockers," one of the studio's few go-to franchises and an important one given its shaky summer. Production is set to begin in the next few months, with a 2010 release date more than likely.
The picture is expect to pick up where 2004's "Meet the Fockers" left off, with Stiller's Gaylord Focker and Teri Polo's Pamela Byrnes having a child (or children -- reports abound that they could be having twins). John Hamburg penned the latest version of the script.
Even if Alba's role isn't huge -- and with so many other big actors (Stiller, DeNiro, Wilson) already set, it may not be -- the move is a shrewd bit of casting for Universal. The franchise needs to rope in young men, and with the movie's promise of babies and family -- not always said demo's main interest -- it could use a Maxim-esque presence.
The WME-repped Alba, incidentally, is set to star in the Robert Rodriguez thriller "Machete" for Sony as well as Garry Marshall's romantic comedy "Valentine's Day" for New Line. Both are also movies that could -- and need to -- bring in the boys. That's what she does. The focker. |

Jessica Alba arrives in town to shoot 'Little Fockers'
The newest addition to the "Meet the Parents" movies, Jessica Alba, arrived in Chicago on Sunday to film the third installment, "Little Fockers." According to Reuters, Alba is playing "an attractive pharmaceutical rep whose looks wreak havoc on male characters in the story."
The 28-year-old actress was spotted having dinner at River North's Hub51 on Sunday night along with two associates. She ate ahi tuna poke, fish tacos and chicken nachos (fellow Razzies favorite Lindsay Lohan also had the chicken nachos when she stopped by with Samantha Ronson in August).
"Little Fockers" is the first major movie to film in the Chicago-area since the "Nightmare on Elm Street" remake, which filmed in Arlington Heights and Elk Grove Village from May through July. "Fockers" co-stars Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro and will hit theaters July 30, 2010, according to imdb.com.
The previous "Meet the Parents" film, "Meet the Fockers" (2004), grossed $279 million domestically.

Fockers Hits for Holidays
Universal has announced an update to their 2010 line-up including the move of their comedy threequel Little Fockers, being pushed back from its original July 30 release to come out instead on December 22, in order to take full advantage of the holidays much like the previous installment, Meet the Fockers. Already scheduled for a Dec. 22 release were The Green Hornet, Gulliver's Travels and Life As We Know It.

Jessica Alba Calls Her 'Little Fockers' Character 'Totally Crazy'
In addition to kicking butt in Robert Rodriguez's "Machete," Jessica Alba is also appearing among the star-studded cast of "Little Fockers," the third installment in the franchise that features Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro playing out their often awkward son-in-law vs. overprotective father-in-law relationship.
"I play a pharmaceutical sales rep who is very, um, outgoing and has no sense of personal space," Alba recently told MTV News. She hinted that her character might inadvertently try to get a little too close to Stiller's lovable Gaylord Focker. "She says exactly what's on her mind and she has no filter at all," the actress explained. "She was really fun because I'm pretty much the opposite of that."
Alba admitted that keeping a straight face on set was a big challenge, since most of her scenes were with funnyman Ben Stiller. Still, she had a blast, she said, particularly with her character's freewheeling ways. "It was just fun and pretty liberating to play someone who was just so open and so free and totally crazy."
"Little Fockers" is set a few months after the events of the last installment, "Meet the Fockers," as Stiller and Teri Polo's parents-to-be busily prepare for baby. Producer Jay Roach told MTV News earlier this year that Stiller's attempt to remain calm is thwarted by a familiar face (and former nemesis).
"It's Owen Wilson coming back with a new passion for Ben's wife, Teri Polo," Roach said. "And of course it's hidden and it's all under the surface, but it causes a lot of new wrinkles in the relationship between all of them," the producer explained.
In addition to Alba and Wilson, "Fockers" will also feature Dustin Hoffman in the role of Stiller's father opposite Barbra Streisand, an addition to the cast that was only recently made due to the film reportedly coming in under budget.
"Little Fockers" is due in theaters December 22.

The Directors: Paul Weitz and 'Little Fockers'
A sequel that boasts Robert De Niro, Barbra Streisand, Dustin Hoffman and Ben Stiller also welcomes Jessica Alba and Harvey Keitel.
Reuniting cast members of the "Fockers" franchise six years after their last cinematic outing proved easy enough, save for one holdout. Despite pleas and personal visits from the filmmakers and costars, Dustin Hoffman passed on reprising his role in "Little Fockers," and they shot the movie last year without him.
Then, in August, the famously analytical actor changed his mind and shot several scenes for the movie, due in theaters Dec. 22. The scenes, most of them pairing Hoffman with on-screen "Fockers" wife Barbra Streisand, were more or less identical to what Hoffman read last year.
So what changed?
"I don't think he wrapped his head around it until he saw the preview in the theater," jokes "Little Fockers" director Paul Weitz. "Then the light bulb went off."
The third "Fockers" film has Jack ( Robert De Niro) reluctantly passing the mantle of family leadership to his neurotic son-in-law Greg ( Ben Stiller). Hoffman and Streisand reprise their roles as Greg's parents, and the cast adds newcomers Jessica Alba and Harvey Keitel.
Here's Weitz on working with the Hollywood equivalent of the 1927 Yankees:
On De Niro: "He was a producer on 'About a Boy,' so I'd already gone through my period of being thunderstruck. I didn't find anything jaded about him. He's eager not to have false beats and [to] attack a scene in new ways each time. I'd just seen the film 'Everybody's Fine,' and it's interesting to look at that and then his performance here and see the choices he makes playing characters confronting mortality."
On Streisand: "She surprised me with her honesty and lack of pretension. You're hanging out with a woman who was such a force in film in the '70s and '80s, and she's telling you how acting makes her a nervous wreck."
On Hoffman: "I spent a day with him when we were wooing him and he said, 'I'm not going to do this, and I'm worried I'm going to upset you.' But how could I be upset? He has such a love for life and conversation, and I had the chance to absorb that for a day and then, ultimately, work with him."
On Keitel: "He's friends with Bob, so we thought it'd be fun for him to do this. It's just a couple of scenes, but man, he wears his heart on his sleeve for the art of filmmaking."
On Alba: "She plays a pharmaceutical rep, and at every screening, we get one or two doctors who tell us she's very accurate in her bouncy salesmanship. She does a really good comedic performance akin to a screwball comedy of the '30s or '40s, which is hard to do and not have a lot of egg on your face."
