Doug Liman Producing New Knight Rider Series
NBC is bringing back "Knight Rider," hiring Doug Liman (Mr. and Mrs. Smith, The Bourne Identity) to produce a Transformers-inspired reworking of the 1980s hit action-drama series about a man and his indestructible supercar.
Variety says the network is developing a two-hour pilot for the project, with tentative plans to air it as a telepic later this season. Liman is open to the idea of directing, assuming his feature schedule allows. If the telepic clicks, a new-model "Knight Rider" could be on the air as early as next fall.
Dave Andron ("Raines") is writing the pilot script and will serve as supervising producer alongside executive producers Liman and Dave Bartis ("The O.C.," "Heist") for Universal Media Studios and Dutch Oven Productions.
The trade says the success of Transformers had a role in inspiring NBC Entertainment chief Ben Silverman's decision to revive "Knight." The thinking is that small screen f/x have advanced to the point where it'd be feasible to have a weekly series in which cars shift shapes.
It's also likely the new show will explore the idea of "evil" cars to offset the heroic talking K.I.T.T. car of the original series, which starred David Hasselhoff. That said, the series is expected to essentially remain focused on the story of a single man fighting for justice with the help of his superadvanced car.

Wie wir schon berichtet haben, plant der US-Sender NBC eine Neuauflage der Actionserie Knight Rider aus den 80er Jahren. Doug Liman ist als ausführender Produzent an dem Projekt beteiligt. Man hat gehofft, dass er den zweistündigen Pilotfilm auch selbst inszenieren könnte, doch aufgrund von terminlichen Schwierigkeiten wird nun ein anderer auf dem Regiestuhl Platz nehmen.
Steve Shill ("The Kill Point") wird bei dem von "Transformers" inspirierten Remake Regie führen. Dave Andron schrieb das Drehbuch für den Piloten und wird das Projekt als Produzent auch überwachen. Neben Liman ist auch Dave Bartis als ausführender Produzent für Universal Media Studios und Dutch Oven Productions mit an Bord.
Die Serie "Knight Rider" wurde von 1982 bis 1986 produziert und schaffte es insgesamt auf 4 Staffeln bzw. 90 Folgen. Michael Knight (David Hasselhoff) nahm es mit seinem sprechenden Wunder-Auto K.I.T.T. im Auftrag der 'Foundation für Recht und Verfassung' regelmäßig mit dem Bösen auf. An der Grundidee der Kultserie will man nichts ändern; man will ihr nur ein neues Gesicht verpassen und sieht auf Grund des technischen Fortschritts auch bereits die Möglichkeiten dazu.

"All My Children" star Justin Bruening is set as the lead in NBC's two-hour pilot "Knight Rider," a Transformers-inspired sequel to the 1980s series, which is slated to air as a movie later in the season. The Hollywood Reporter says Bruening will play the son of Michael Knight, the character played by David Hasselhoff in the original series. And like father, like son, the choice of Bruening closely resembles Hasselhoff's casting a quarter-century ago.
Like Bruening, Hasselhoff was a soap star ("The Young & the Restless") with few other credits when he landed "Knight Rider." He was almost the same age as Bruening, who is 28. Steve Shill is set to direct and co-exec produce "Rider," which was written by Dave Andron. Doug Liman and Dave Bartis are executive producing for Universal Media Studios and Dutch Oven Productions. Andron serves as supervising producer.

Knight Rider is Back!
It was my first introduction to Hasselhoff – yes, the David Hasselhoff. I sat down in my living room at 5 years old and watched "Knight Rider." Now, I have to tell you, I didn't understand a single thing about the show, other than there was a really kick-ass car that talked. Oh, and David Hasselhoff was the star.
Fast forward 25 years and we've got a brand new KITT car and a brand new television series on NBC. "Knight Rider" is back, and on February 17, 2008 the new series will kick-off with a 2-hour movie event.
Today, we got the first look at the three KITT cars they'll be using for the flick (and hopefully series one day if the writers strike doesn't continue – sorry, different topic.) In the original series, it was the T-Top Pontiac Trans Am. In 2007, it's an updated Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR. And not only that, there's three different cars playing the part.
Today, at the NBC Studios in Burbank -- between the studio for "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and "Access Hollywood" -- the new cars were unveiled with a pseudo demonstration with one of the stunt cars. They even gave KITT his own parking spot next to Jay Leno – I guess he won't be using that for a while.
The first car shown was a remote car – no driver! Some really cool stuff! There are two people who control it by a remote control; the thing just moves on its own, opens the doors on its own, drives from side to side. See, as a kid, you always wonder about how the car drove by itself – now I know.
Anyway, the other two cars aren't by remote; they're real cars, including the stunt car. The last car had the cast of the movie there – Justin Bruening (Mike Traceur), Deanna Russo (Sarah Graiman), Bruce Davison (Charles Graiman), and Sydney Tamiia Poitier (Carrie Ruvai).
This "Knight Rider" is a sequel to the original series, which Justin says is definitely a plus for the storyline. "Being a fan of the show, I was very excited about; I didn't want them to mess with [it] – you don't mess with 'the original' anything, it's never really as good. I love the fact that it just continues the story, and there's a huge gap, so within this show, we can go backwards, forwards. We can do anything because there are huge gaps in there to fill in."
Justin's character of Mike Traceur is the son of Michael Knight, but "I clearly don't know that right away," he says. "He's the reluctant hero, an ex-Army Ranger that obviously in the end becomes a hero even though he doesn't want to be. With the writers strike, I haven't gotten a new episode so I don't know if he likes being a hero, but whatever, we'll find out."
Deanna plays the daughter of Charles Graiman, the inventor of KITT. She told ComingSoon.net about the bonding time she had getting to know how the real KITT moves. "We were doing some pretty crazy stunts up in Newhall on this crazy, windy mountain road; it was pretty exciting. I was actually in the passenger seat, and nobody was behind the wheel. They have this amazing rig, a stunt driver locked down to the top of the car on the roof. He's a very talented because at no point did I feel that my life was in danger. Well, ok, I gotta say, I'll be honest with you, the very, very first time I rode in KITT as a passenger, even though I was in the driver's seat, I wasn't in control of the car, it was a little scary. It kind of felt like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, but real. After that first exciting thing, now it just feels like a roller coaster; it's a really cool job. I'm so glad you guys got to check out some of these things because we've been really excited to share it and talk about it."
It was Sydney who just put it bluntly of how awesome this show is really going to be. "It's cool, I think it's a real true kind of staying true to the original idea of the show. There's just cooler stuff we can do, and it's even more kind of weirdly relevant today, because it's actually believable that you can have a car that talks and does all this stuff and that it actually happens. The car itself is super cool and you guys saw the attack mode version, when it came in and popped those crazy 360s or whatever. Just the car itself is really the coolest thing I've seen so far. Certainly there's going to be some interesting stuff that the car does in the movie. And now I think it's even more, for the kids that didn't grow up in the '80s and didn't see [the original] 'Knight Rider,' I think it's something they can totally identify with and it's not so foreign."
The Hoff makes a small cameo in this movie to pass the torch to Justin. It was a surreal experience for him getting on set and seeing the real Michael Knight. "It's definitely one of the highlights of my life, something I can tell my grandkids. It's a lot to process all at once I have to say. It still hasn't sunk that – I don't even tell people what I do because it sounds ridiculous. When I told my friends when I found out, I didn't tell them. They would call and say, 'What have you been up to? You been filming anything?' 'Yeah, I got a job. I'm Knight Rider!?' (in a questioning manner). I don't know any other way to say it than that. And obviously, they're all really excited 'cause we watched it growing up."
The question you're all wondering – who is voicing KITT? The answer: Will Arnett! Sorry all you William Daniels fans out there, he's not back.
But with Will Arnett as the voice, you know there's going to be some of that good humor thrown in. "We all joke around on set with funny things that KITT might say," noted Deanna. "Will Arnett is a brand-new addition to the show, and we're so excited to have him on board. When I first heard talks of him being on it, I was just clamoring with joy. I'm a huge fan of 'Arrested Development'! His voice alone is very memorable, so I think he's a perfect fit for KITT. I'm just really excited to hear what he does with it; there are so many choice one could make."
One thing's for sure, "Knight Rider" is back and better than ever! Stay tuned for more from the cast of the NBC movie when it premieres February 17th.

Habe mir den Piloten jetzt angesehen. Also wirklich überzeugen konnte er mich nicht
und das Ende erinnert stark an Team Knight Rider. Die Quoten waren aber ganz gut,
vielleicht gibt es also eine neue Serie. Wirklich darauf warten tue ich aber nicht.

AICN und "The Hollywood Reporter" schreiben, dass auf der für Mittwoch angesetzten Upfront-Präsentation die neue Knight Rider-Serie offiziell vorgestellt werden wird. Auch wenn ACIN den Wortlaut seiner Meldung etwas zurück genommen hat (von "NBC has greenlight" auf "NBC is mounting"), wird hier ein offenes Geheimnis bestätigt.
Es wird dem "Hollywood Reporter" zufolge überlegt, auf Grund der Erfahrungen mit Bionic Woman, sich mehr Zeit zu lassen und die Serie erst in der Midseason nach dem Superbowl (01.02.2009) starten zu lassen, wass dann einen einen Februar-Start bedeuten würde.
Wir werden uns für die genauen Details noch bis Mittwoch gedulden müssen, wenn NBC seine Serienplanung für die nächsten 52 Wochen bekannt geben wird. "Variety" berichtet jedoch, dass diese Planung nur mit "Bleistiften" geschrieben sei, NBC sich es also vorbehalte, jederzeit Änderungen vornehmen zu können.

Irgendwie haben die nicht von den Fehlern bei Team Knight Rider gelernt. Die Effekte
sind grottig, die Storys dünn und bis auf Frauen in Bikinis oder Unterwäsche gibt es
eigentlich nichts sehenswertes. Ich denke mal die Serie wird es nicht lange geben.

"Knight Rider" spielt inhaltlich 25 Jahre später - und am Steuer des neuen, mit zusätzlichen Fähigkeiten ausgestatteten K.I.T.T. (Knight Industries Three Thousand) sitzt diesmal nicht der von David Hasselhoff gespielte Michael Knight, sondern dessen Sohn Mike Traceur (Justin Bruening). David Hasselhoff wird in seiner Paraderolle aber einen Gastauftritt absolvieren.
Die actionreiche Serie ist in jeder Hinsicht im neuen Jahrtausend angekommen, bleibt dem Original gegenüber aber treu. So gibt es eine Vielzahl von Referenzen an den TV-Klassiker wie beispielsweise die bekannte Titelmusik. Grundlegend überarbeitet präsentiert sich hingegen das Wunderauto K.I.T.T.! Genau wie sein Vorgänger mit einer künstlichen und lernfähigen Intelligenz ausgestattet, hat der schwarze Flitzer (diesmal kein Pontiac Trans Am, sondern ein Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 KR) jetzt aber noch weitere nützliche "Gadgets" mit an Bord.
Der Pilotfilm beginnt damit, dass der 23-jährige Mike Traceur (Justin Bruening), Sohn des legendären Michael Knight (David Hasselhoff), nach seiner Rückkehr aus dem Irak in Las Vegas landet, wo sich seine Jugendfreundin Sarah Graiman (Deanna Russo) Hilfe suchend an ihn wendet. Ihr Vater Charles Graiman (Bruce Davison), der vor 25 Jahren den ersten K.I.T.T. mitentwickelte, ist an einem geheimen Pentagon-Projekt namens "Legion" beteiligt und wurde von skrupellosen Gangstern entführt. Mike und Sarah machen sich auf, um Sarahs Vater zu befreien und in Sicherheit zu bringen. Gezeigt werden zunächst 17 Folgen.
Es war die Kultserie der 80er Jahre: "Knight Rider". Wenn der ehemalige Polizist Michael Knight (David Hasselhoff) mit seinem Wunderauto KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand) im Auftrag der Foundation für Recht und Verfassung auf Verbrecherjagd ging, schlugen weltweit die Herzen der nicht nur jungen Fans höher. Der schwarze Trans Am mit der roten Lichterkette im Kühlergrill, der sprechen, lautlos fahren, springen und wenn nötig fliegen konnte, stahl dem späteren "Baywatch"-Lebensretter und "I've Been Looking For Freedom"-Sänger Hasselhoff die Show – und war der absolute Star der Serie. Das Auto konnte alleine fahren, war aber sofort zu Stelle, wenn Hasselhoff in der Bredouille steckte. Zum Ausgleich dafür lagen Hasselhoff in jeder Folge die Blondinen zu Füßen. Das Fazit: Frisuren, Klamotten oder auch Musik – die "Knight Rider"-Folgen (1982 – 86, 90 Folgen in vier Staffeln) waren ein Manifest der 80er Jahre.

Also mir hat der Pilotfilm gefallen. Die Story war ganz okay, der Charme von KITT ist finde ich wieder voll da. Der Start hat mir auf jeden Fall gefallen, jetzt hoffe ich mal dass es zirka in der Art weitergeht 
Die Serie scheint wesentlich besser als erwartet. Was aber auch nicht schwer ist, weil meine Erwartungen äußerst gering gewesen sind  |

"Knight Rider"-Pilot mit starken Quoten bei RTL
Der Pilot zur actiongeladenen Neuauflage der Kult-Serie „Knight Rider“ aus den 80er Jahren erreichte am Donnerstag um 21.15 Uhr bei RTL einen Marktanteil von 22 Prozent beim jungen Publikum (14 – 49 Jahre). 4,36 Millionen Zuschauer ab 3 Jahre (16,5 % MA) wollten die im neuen Jahrtausend angekommene Fortsetzung des Originals sehen. Damit war der 90-minütige Pilotfilm zur neuen RTL-Serie das erfolgreichste Prime-Time-Programm bei den jungen Zuschauern. Die Serie startet mit 17 Folgen am 17.10., immer samstags, um 16.50 Uhr. Ebenfalls erfolgreich lief eine neue Folge von „Alarm für Cobra 11“, die um 20.15 Uhr einen Marktanteil von 20 Prozent beim jungen Publikum und 4,55 Millionen Zuschauer ab 3 Jahre erreichte.
Mit einem Tagesmarktanteil von 18,6 Prozent beim jungen Publikum setzte sich RTL vor die gesamte Konkurrenz (Sat.1: 13,4 %, ProSieben: 11,9 %, VOX: 8,1 %). Beim Gesamtpublikum lag RTL mit einem Marktanteil von 13,8 Prozent knapp hinter der ARD (14 %) und vor allen anderen Sendern.

hab Heute mal in die Wiederholung geschaut und war enttäuscht. Nicht das meine Erwartung hoch waren aber so schlecht hab ich mir das nun auch nicht vorgestellt!
Der Hauptdarsteller ist schon mal so unsympatisch und Kitt mit seinen Transformationen ist auch nicht mehr der Alte!
Mein Fazit: Einmal und nie wieder! Hat mich zu sehr an dieses Team Night Raider erinnert! |
