Wie Francis Lawrence ("Constantine"), der Regisseur des diesjährigen Kassenknallers, den Kollegen von 'ShockTillYouDrop' auf der diesjährigen San Diego Comic Con bestätigte, ist an den Gerüchten tatsächlich etwas dran.

Hierbei soll es sich jedoch nicht um eine richtige Fortsetzung handeln, sondern um ein Prequel. Derzeit prüfe man einige Ideen, jedoch soll Kassenmagnet Will Smith ("Men in Black", "Independence Day") definitiv wieder in der Rolle des Dr. Robert Neville zu sehen sein. Auch will man den Autor der Romanvorlage Richard Matheson wieder mit einbinden, beispielsweise indem man ihn die Drehbuchentwürfe prüfen lässt.

"I Am Legend", nach "The Last Man on Earth" und "Der Omega-Mann" die dritte Verfilmung von Matheson's Erfolgsroman, konnte weltweit tolle 584 Mio. US-Dollar einspielen. In der Rangliste der weltweit erfolgreichsten Filme aller Zeiten liegt man damit auf Rang 42.

Ein Prequel? Was wollen sie uns denn da noch zeigen? Einiges wurde doch schon im Film gezeigt.

hm vielleicht noch genauer, wie der virus entstanden ist, wie menschen nach und nach verschwunden sind....

The screenplay is written by D.B. Weiss based on a detailed outline that was created by the combined forces of Smith, Goldsman, Lassiter and Lawrence, which will cover the final days of humanity in New York City before a man-made virus creates a plague that wipes out the population, leaving Neville alone with the mutated inhabitants.

So we have to make our way from New York to D.C. and then back to New York."

He says they're still working out the narrative kinks. And it will indeed be a prequel, not a sequel as was recently reported elsewhere on the web.

Hm ich weiß noch nicht was ich davon halten soll. Hab grade mal in meine DVD reingeschaut hab da den Film noch mal nur mit anderem Ende, fände ne Fortsetzung dazu viel besser als ein Prequel.

Acording to the site, "the intention is for Will Smith to reprise his role as scientist Robert Neville, who was the last man on earth doing battle with a mutated mob in New York City after an apocalyptic man-made virus wiped out the population."

Arash Amel (upcoming The Expatriate and Grace of Monaco) has been hired to write the script.

Deadline adds that the film is not being called a prequel, so it will be interesting what story they will tell considering the events that took place in I Am Legend. The site is unsure if director Francis Lawrence will return.
